Government forced dangerous terrorist suspect to move to Gloucestershire
AT LEAST one dangerous terrorist suspect has been forced to move to Gloucestershire by the Government, Conservative research has revealed.
Following comments in the House of Commons, by a Labour MP, that the Government was “parachuting” terrorist suspects subject to control orders into Gloucestershire, the Leader of the County Council, Cllr Barry Dare, submitted an FOI request to the Home Office.
They have now replied, confirming “In the last five years one person subject to a control order has been required to be relocated to Gloucestershire”.
Control orders are designed to regulate the lives of the most serious terrorist suspects, when it is impossible to charge them, in some cases because doing so would reveal intelligence sources, or where it is impossible, under the Human Rights Act to deport them.
Cllr Dare, commented: “Control orders are only used for the most serious terrorist suspects – there have only been 44 issued in the 5 years this power has existed.
"16% of these individuals have gone on to abscond and disappear into the community.
"It is disgraceful that the Government would force such a dangerous person to move from somewhere else to Gloucestershire.
"Instead of doing what they should do, and helping us protect Gloucestershire people, the Government is forcing a terrorist suspect to live amongst them.
"The Government and the Labour MPs that support it must tell us how they justify putting people at risk in this way.”
